Smith, Crusaders Lock Down Gaels

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Kendall Smith led Saint Joseph’s in a close win over visiting Holyoke Catholic 44-40.

The Crusaders clamped down defensively in the fourth quarter to clinch its fourth-straight win to begin the season.

Down 35-34 after three quarters, St. Joe’s (4-0) held the Gaels to five points down the stretch, to secure the win and its perfect start.

Smith finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Marissa Avanzato chipped in 11 points for the Crusaders.
