Drury's Defense Keys Win at Monument Mountain
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Lily Mirante and Eva Moser each scored 10 points Tuesday to lead the Drury girls basketball team to a 52-22 win over Monument Mountain.
Keira Vidal and Delaney Hayden added eight and seven points, respectively, as the Blue Devils leaned on their defense in winning their fourth straight game.
“There will be quarters, halves, or even games when shots aren’t falling, but defense can’t take a night off,” Drury coach Ian Downey said. “Tonight was a perfect example of that. Holding them to 11 points at halftime kept us in control, and once we started turning defense into offense in the third quarter, that was the spark we needed.”
Mirante scored eight points in that third quarter, when Drury outscored the Spartans, 21-7, to take a 42-18 lead.
“Being up only 10 at halftime, I knew their coach was probably talking about cutting it in half by the fourth quarter,” Downey said. “I told our team the opposite. I didn’t want the home team to have any reason to believe they could win. We challenged our players to come out with energy and put the game away early, and that’s exactly what they did.”
Ynes Bourdon scored seven to lead Monument Mountain (3-9), which goes to Ludlow on Friday.
Drury (8-3) hosts Mount Greylock on Thursday.
