Simon’s Rock College honors scholarship recipients at convocation

GREAT BARRINGTON – At the recent Simon’s Rock College of Bard Honors Convocation, Dean and Vice President of the College Bernard F. Rodgers, Jr. presented honors and awards to new and returning students. The convocation ceremony officially opened the academic year. Faculty member William Jackson led an academic procession, followed by a choral introduction by The Simon’s Rock Chorus. Bernard F. Rodgers, Jr. welcomed the students and faculty, and Nancy Yanoshak, faculty member in History and Women’s Studies, gave the faculty address. Virginia Jeffries, a senior from Sayre, Pennsylvania, gave the student address, followed by the presentation of honors. Remarks by Academic Dean Patricia Sharpe concluded the Convocation activities. Among those honored were local students Noah Brown (Worthington); Sarah Goodchild-Robb (Mt. Washington and Summerland, California); Gregory Grinberg (New Preston, Connecticut); Ian McAlister (Tolland); and Kate Millington (Chatham Center). Noah Brown was one of four students to receive a W.E.B. DuBois Scholarship. Named in honor of the scholar, social critic, and civil rights leader who was born and raised in Gt. Barrington and completed high school two years earlier than his peers, the award provides significant financial assistance to qualified minority students. Sarah Goodchild-Robb was named The Caleb W. Roosevelt Scholar. Established in memory of Caleb W. Roosevelt, ’82, this scholarship is awarded annually to a returning student who has demonstrated exceptional interest and talent in writing poetry or prose. Gregory Grinberg was named a Robert Maynard Hutchins Scholar, an award which honors the scholar and educator whose efforts led to the creation of an early college-program at the University of Chicago in 1939. Up to 20 awards are made annually to students who have demonstrated academic excellence and have contributed to the Simon’s Rock community. Ian McAlister received The Mullaney Corporation Scholarship, an award given to a first year student from Massachusetts on the basis of need and merit, established in 2000 by David Mullaney, general contractor for the Fisher Science and Academic Center, the Alumni Library and the Kilpatrick Athletic Center at Simon’s Rock College. Kate Millington received one of the Acceleration to Excellence Program, Elizabeth Blodgett Hall Scholarships. AEP scholarships are awarded to 20 outstanding high school sophomores on a competitive basis. They cover the full cost of tuition, fees, room and board for two years at Simon’s Rock College. Elizabeth Blodgett Hall founded Simon’s Rock College in 1966.

Stockbridge Grange Community Dinner

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Stockbridge Grange is holding a community dinner on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026, featuring spaghetti and meatballs, salad, and bread with dessert choices of chocolate cream or lemon meringue pie.
 
Dinner is $17.00 per person, take out only with 12-1:30 pm pick up at the Stockbridge Grange Hall at 51 Church Street, Stockbridge.  Orders may be made by calling 413-243-1298 or 413-443-4352. 
 
Inclement weather postpones the meal for a week.
