The Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA will host an open house for individuals and families interested in learning more about their summer programs for kids and summer employment opportunities for adults, on Sunday, Feb. 8, at 1:30 pm.
The afternoon will include a camp slide show, camp tours (dress for the weather), and a chance to chat with the summer camp directors.
Camp Becket for Boys and Chimney Corners Camp for Girls founded in 1903 and 1931 respectively, provide residential camping experiences for over 1,000 boys and girls each summer (286 boys and 250 girls per session) over the two four-week sessions (1st session: June 27 to July 24 and 2nd session: July 25 to August 21) on its 1,300-acre campus which provides a safe, enjoyable experiences in a rustic outdoor setting.
The Summer Day Camps offer a complete package of quality, creative programs, and dynamic leadership to educate, challenge, and delight young boys and girls. The days are full of fun and friends with lots of great activities including sports, crafts, swimming, nature and games. The Summer Day Camps are held at Lane Farm, which offers playing fields, and activity barn and access to Rudd Pond at Camp Becket, providing a perfect facility for this exciting program.
Explorer Camp our full-day program for children 6-12 years of age offers children the opportunity to explore and discover. Explorer campers are divided into villages by age and participate in age appropriate activities planned out by the staff. In the younger villages children enjoy hikes, arts & crafts, nature, archery, cooking projects, sports and more.
The older villages enjoy the traditional camp activities as well as some advanced activities such as the climbing tower and bouldering room. Eight, 1-week sessions begin June 28 and through August 20.
Discovery Camp is a half-day program for pre-schoolers, 3-5 year olds. This program is a great introduction to a full-day summer camp program that involves circle time, sharing, swimming, arts & crafts, and much more. Eight, 1-week sessions begin June 28 through August 20.

Lanesborough Fifth-Graders Win Snowplow Name Contest
LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — One of the snowplows for Highway District 1 has a new name: "The Blizzard Boss."
The name comes from teacher Gina Wagner's fifth-grade class at Lanesborough Elementary School.
The state Department of Transportation announced the winners of the fourth annual "Name A Snowplow" contest on Monday.
The department received entries from public elementary and middle school classrooms across the commonwealth to name the 12 MassDOT snowplows that will be in service during the 2025/2026 winter season.
The purpose of the contest is to celebrate the snow and ice season and to recognize the hard work and dedication shown by public works employees and contractors during winter operations.
"Thank you to all of the students who participated. Your creativity allows us to highlight to all, the importance of the work performed by our workforce," said interim MassDOT Secretary Phil Eng.
"Our workforce takes pride as they clear snow and ice, keeping our roads safe during adverse weather events for all that need to travel. ?To our contest winners and participants, know that you have added some fun to the serious take of operating plows. ?I'm proud of the skill and dedication from our crews and thank the public of the shared responsibility to slow down, give plows space and put safety first every time there is a winter weather event."
