She is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Dr. Thorp is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Tennessee Academy of Family Physicians. "We're thrilled to welcome Dr. Thorp to our practice," said William Kober, M.D. "Her talents and skills will mesh well not only with Northern Berkshire Family Practice, but with the community as a whole." Dr. Thorp is a native of North Carolina. She has previously worked as a staff physician at Mountain States Health Alliance in Tennessee. She is married to Michael, whom she met while studying arctic biology and ecology at the University of Iceland in 1997. Dr. Thorp enjoys outdoor sports including kayaking, bicycling, and horseback riding. "We visited the Berkshires last winter and fell in love with the area," said Dr. Thorp, whose husband grew up in the Waterville, Maine area. "We were looking for a small town in New England." The Thorps will live in Stamford, Vermont. Northern Berkshire Family Practice was established in 1994 and has offices on Airport Road in North Adams. Dr. Stephen Payne and Dr. William Kober arrived in Northern Berkshire County in 1993 and 1994, respectively. After working for managed health care companies as staff physicians, they ultimately formed their own private practice, Northern Berkshire Family Practice, P.C. in November 1998. After practicing for two years at the former CHP building in North Adams, they began construction on a new 5,000 square foot medical facility off of State Road in North Adams. With the completion of the facility in the fall of 2001, the practice moved its operation to the new building. Information about the practice can be found on the Internet at www.nbfamilypractice.com.
