Pittsfield - Darlene Rodowicz, who has served as Associate Vice President for Finance at Berkshire Health Systems since 1995, has been appointed by the President of Berkshire Health Systems to serve as Chief Financial Officer, an appointment that was affirmed by the BHS Board of Trustees. Rodowicz succeeds Michael Cullen, who has taken on the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth, Massachusetts. "Darlene and Mike worked closely together for well over a decade, helping to guide Berkshire Health Systems to consistent financial stability and success throughout challenging times economically for all Massachusetts hospitals," said David E. Phelps, President of Berkshire Health Systems. "Darlene's exceptional skills and expertise in finance, and her knowledge and experience at BHS provide us with a seamless transition. This was a great opportunity for Mike Cullen and his wife, Dottie, both natives of the Weymouth area, to return home, and South Shore Hospital will greatly benefit from his expertise." A graduate of Western New England College with a Master's Degree in Business Administration, Rodowicz also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She joined Berkshire Health Systems in 1984 as a staff accountant and has since served in a variety of positions, including Billing Supervisor of Berkshire Faculty Services and BHS Comptroller before being named Associate Vice President for Finance. She is a member and Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, a national organization comprised of healthcare financial leaders. "Darlene takes over the financial stewardship of a health system that serves over 100-thousand residents throughout Berkshire County and communities in neighboring states," said Phelps. "At a time when it has become increasingly difficult for any hospital system in Massachusetts to maintain fiscal stability, BHS continues to be strong financially. This is critical to our ability to provide the latest and most comprehensive services to the communities we serve through Berkshire Medical Center and Fairview Hospital." Appointed to the School Committee of the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District, Rodowicz is also treasurer of the Berkshire Bruins Hockey Club and a member of the school district's ACE foundation. She and her husband Bob are the parents of four children.

Williams College Gives All-Clear After 'Suspicious' Package Found

By Stephen DravisiBerkshires Staff

Williamstown Fire and Northern Berkshire EMS stood by at the scene during the investigation of a suspicious package at Williams College's Wachenheim Science Center on Thursday.
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A suspicious package that caused the evacuation of Williams College's Wachenheim Science Center on Thursday has been determined to be not dangerous.

A post on the college website at 4 p.m. states the "device was determined not to be a bomb or other danger."

The college said all buildings, residences and streets are reopened that no further updates will be made.

Hoxsey Street was blocked off by the Police Department and the college evacuated a number of buildings around the area earlier in the day and an alarm had been sounding in the neighborhood since at least 1:30 p.m.

Officials at the scene say the State Police Bomb Squad was asked to respond as a precautionary measure. The squad arrived shortly before 3 p.m. and the alarms were shut off about 3:42 p.m. when the squad gave the all-clear.

College officials said their ability to work with authorities and follow protocols "enabled prompt resolution" of the matter.

No further information was immediately available on Thursday; this article will be updated as more information comes in.
