Watercolor and oil paintings by Sharon Carson will be on view at the Becket Arts Center, Thursday, August 3 through Tuesday, Aug. 15. An opening reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 1-4 p.m. The Becket Arts Center is located at the corner of Route 8 and Brooker Hill Road, next to the library. Visit www.becketartscenter.org Since relocating to North Adams in October 2004, Sharon has enjoyed her artistic exploration of the Berkshire region. A landscape painter for 30 years, Sharon works in both oils and watercolors. Often she sketches on location in watercolors and then produces larger works in oil in her studio. Doing many small outdoor studies allows Sharon to gather ideas which are then developed into a painting that plays with realism while still holding onto the feeling of the site. Both her on-site and studio works, in oils and watercolors, will be shown in this exhibit. Sharon resides at the Eclipse Mill Artist Lofts in North Adams (on Route 2, one mile east of MASS MoCA). Several of her oil paintings are currently displayed in the group exhibit "Expressions in Color," shown through Aug. 6 in the Eclipse Mill Gallery. Sharon teaches both oil and watercolor painting workshops. She will teach at Becket Arts Center's Watercolor Weekend, Aug. 26 and 27. The Southern Vermont Art Center, in Manchester, Vermont offers an oil painting workshop, taught by Sharon, September 26-29. Visit www.sharoncarson.com

DALTON, Mass. — At just 16 years old, Salvatore LaBeau is already making avalanches in the national snocross racing scene.

Last weekend, LaBeau raced in the Mount Zion Snocross National race in Ironwood, Mich., the first of eight races in the national circuit series.

Competitions take place across national circuits, attracting racers from various regions and even internationally.

Labeau rides for CT Motorsports, a team based in Upstate New York, on a 2025 Polaris 600R.

This is LaBeau's first time competing on the CT Motorsports team. Years prior, he raced for a team owned by Bruce Gaspardi, owner of South Side Sales and Service in North Adams.

Despite a bad first day on Friday when he fell off his snowmobile and didn't make the final, LaBeau carried on with confidence and on Saturday obtained his first national podium, placing in third for the Sport Lite class.

"I'm feeling good. I'm gonna start training more when I come home, and go to the gym more. And I am really excited, because I'm in 11th right now," the Wahconah High student said.
