Fifty year retrospective of Art by John Stritch on display at Lichtenstein Center for the Arts

Painter, sculptor, printmaker, teacher and medical doctor. John Stritch has been all these things and much more in his 81 years, and a retrospective of his life’s work will be on display at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts in downtown Pittsfield beginning Friday, January 19 through March 3, 2007. Stritch first picked up the paint brush and set aside his medical career during a two year spell in France, where he met Pablo Picasso and absorbed all that Europe had to offer. Upon returning to the United States he settled in the Berkshires where he has been creating often whimsical sculpture from found metal objects; his distinctive series of serigraphed posters for Tanglewood, the Josh Billings Run Aground, Jacob’s Pillow and other Berkshire institutions; and original paintings and prints. In addition he taught at the De Sisto School and others and has always been interested in reaching out to and working with young people. The solo retrospective exhibition of his work features over seventy pieces from his varied career and runs from January 19 through March 3, 2007. The opening reception for the show is Friday, January 19, 2007, from 5pm to 8pm, and is free and open to the public. In addition he will be giving an artist talk on Thursday, February 8, at 7pm, also at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts. That program is also free and open to the public. The Lichtenstein Center for the Arts is a municipally-owned community arts center managed by the City’s Office of Cultural Development. It features changing art exhibition in the main gallery, as well as music, dance, literary and theatrical performances. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 5pm. The center also features nine artist studios, a community room, and a ceramics workshop. Classes are offered in ceramics, tap dance, acting, life drawing and other areas. Stockbridge Grange Community Dinner

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Stockbridge Grange is holding a community dinner on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026, featuring spaghetti and meatballs, salad, and bread with dessert choices of chocolate cream or lemon meringue pie.
 
Dinner is $17.00 per person, take out only with 12-1:30 pm pick up at the Stockbridge Grange Hall at 51 Church Street, Stockbridge.  Orders may be made by calling 413-243-1298 or 413-443-4352. 
 
Inclement weather postpones the meal for a week.
