LATHAM, N.Y. — Berkshire Bank has opened its newest full-service branch and financial service center located at 628 New London Road.

The opening ceremony for the new branch was held on Wednesday, Jan. 19, and included a ribbon cutting and a food drive benefiting the Regional Food Bank conducted by the Blue Creek Elementary School. As part of its ongoing commitment to the community, Berkshire Bank is sponsoring the school’s PeaceAble Schools program, a school-wide initiative that helps develop and support positive character traits. Students were on hand to accept the donation, along with the school’s Principal Annette Trapini and Superintendent Joseph Corr.

The opening week continued with an event-packed Family Day on Saturday, Jan. 22, with WGNA radio broadcasting live from the branch. The highlight of the day’s activities included a treasure chest key promotion in which local residents and business owners had a chance to win three great prizes.

The winners included:

Bruce Jesiolowski, who won a $1,000 cash prize

Mary Jo Gray Hughes, who won an Apple iPad

Richard Egel, who won a Kindle

The day also included a special appearance by the Siena mascot Bernie, the men’s and women’s basketball coaches, and members from the cheerleading and dance teams who provided face painting for the kids. The first 50 attendees received basketballs.

“We are thrilled to expand our commitment to New York with our twelfth branch in the Capital District,” said Robert Curley, New York chairman at Berkshire Bank. “This branch opening is part of our ongoing expansion in this growing market and it builds on our continuing success in providing an attractive, full-service financial solution for our customers. Our New York team is having another strong year expanding our banking, insurance, and wealth management businesses, and we continue to offer 100 percent depositor protection through our combined FDIC and Depositors Insurance Fund programs. This new branch will provide new jobs, and support for local businesses and contributions to the community and nonprofit organizations though our foundation.”

Berkshire's Executive Vice President, Retail Banking, Sean A. Gray added, “The environment remains favorable for our company’s many business initiatives. We continue to see improving business conditions in all areas and are moving forward with our long-term plan to expand in the attractive New York market as evidenced by the Latham opening, the upcoming Rotterdam opening, and our recent merger with Rome Savings Bank and Legacy Banks.”
