GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Nancy Bronstein, a doctor of chiropractic, was board certified as a chiropractic internist this past week.

Chiropractic internists undergo a training program in internal diagnosis and natural treatments in helping people avoid chronic disorders such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel disease and other digestive disorders that can be prevented by lifestyle changes if caught early enough.

They are trained to detect underlying disorders or imbalances that lead to these problems by investigating possible nutritional deficiencies, food sensitivities, bacterial, yeast or parasite problems in the gut, genetic factors, heavy metal body burden, hormonal imbalances, lifestyle habits, etc. Chiropractic internists use conventional medical diagnostic tests, specialized functional testing, and integrative medicine diagnostic evaluations.

The focus is on therapeutic methods, which emphasize minimally invasive approaches and minimize risk to the patient. These doctors use treatments such as clinical nutrition, dietary changes, exercise, vitamin and mineral supplementation, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine, acupuncture, natural hormone replacement, and pharmacologic counseling.

Bronstein is a diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Internists, a designation that requires completing a 300-hour postdoctorate course, passing a national certification examination and continuing education in advanced coursework each year. The DABCI program is recognized by the American Chiropractic Association  and certified by the American Board of Chiropractic Internists.

Bronstein practices with her husband, Larry Bronstein, at Mahaiwe Chiropractic, which they began together in 1991.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College Workforce and Community Education graduates were encouraged to be all they can be on Wednesday.

Graduates, families, friends, and staff gathered in Boland Theatre to celebrate around 100 graduates who completed a variety of courses.

They included community health worker, emergency medical technician, phlebotomy technician, registered behavior technician, AI fundamentals, Commercial Drivers License Class A and B, CompTIA Tech-plus, para educator, and English for Speakers of Other Languages.

College President Ellen Kennedy said it was amazing that this might be her last public speaking event before her tenure comes to an end.

She acknowledged the diverse reasons for their studies including career advancement and personal growth, commending their vulnerability and dedication.

"Some of you explored AI, some of you improved your English speaking in really important ways, and the reason that each of you is here is because you decided to put your heart and soul to get vulnerable to do something that might have felt a little bit uncomfortable," she said. "And you did it, and we are so incredibly proud of you, and so happy to be here tonight, celebrating you."

Keynote speaker Shirley Edgerton, founder of Rites of Passage and Empowerment (ROPE) encouraged the graduates to reflect on their accomplishments and look forward to the future.
