WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A sea of red filled the loud and highly electric Mount Greylock Regional High and Middle School's gymnasium during the school's pep rally, which culminated the school's annual Spirit Week on Friday.

"It all escalates to Friday afternoon," said senior and emcee Hank Barrett.

Throughout Spirit Week, students dressed up based on various themes each day. This year's were Pajama Day, Ol' Western Day, Disaster Day and Injury Day. On the final day, nearly every student represented the Mounties' red and white colors.

"Spirit Week is my favorite week of the year," said senior and emcee Margot Besnard. "It's really a Greylock tradition for everyone to get into it...You won't find this anywhere else."

The school honored its sport teams and its clubs, with many activities in between, in which students from different classes and teachers tried to outdo each other in terms of fitness, noise, mummy-wrapping skills and most importantly of all, dance-offs.

The rally also preceded two key matches for Mount Greylock teams. Scheduled for 4:30, the boys cross country team will look to improving to 13-2 on the season. Possibly one of the biggest matches of the season for the football team is also scheduled for tonight. The Mounties (6-0) will take on the St. Joe's Crusaders (5-1) in iBerkshires.com's game of the week and look to continue their winning streak to a record-high 33 straight games.

"We're all excited for tonight's game," Barrett said. "We're prepared, they're prepared...They're going to give us our best game."

Aside from the students cheering on the school's more successful teams, they also cheered on the golf captains as they shared the news of their winless season and attempted a moment of silence for the loss.

Barrett also told the school they won the award for best sportsmanship in Berkshire County for the second straight year.

Williamstown Board Opts to Negotiate with College on Water St. Lot

By Stephen DravisiBerkshires Staff

Newly elected board member Nate Budington, far left, participates in his first in-person meeting along with, from left, Matt Neely, Stephanie Boyd, Peter Beck, Shana Dixon and Town Manager Robert Menicocci.
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday decided to enter into negotiations with Williams College on the sale of the vacant town-owned lot at 59 Water St.

But the board members made it clear that the college's proposal to acquire the lot is a starting point, not a final deal that the elected officials would accept.

"For the sake of continued conversation, I'm in favor of [awarding Williams the site], but if this process wasn't continued with the opportunity for further negotiation, I wouldn't vote to continue this," Peter Beck said. "I think that next step is necessary for us to get to a yes on this."

"I think there's wide agreement on that," Matthew Neely said just before the 5-0 vote to enter talks with the college.

Williams was the sole respondent to a town-issued request for proposals to develop the former town garage site, currently a dirt lot.

The college's stated intent is to build a new Facilities office and create up to 170 parking spaces at 59 Water Street. That use will allow the college to redevelop the current Facilities building site and parking lot as part of a reconception of the school's indoor athletic and recreation facilities.

Under the terms of the RFP, the college's proposal was subjected to review by an ad hoc advisory committee to the town manager, who brought the question to the Select Board. That board will have the final say on any purchase and sales agreement.
