Adams Girls Win 'Boog' Powell Tournament Title

DALTON, Mass. -- The Adams seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball team this season started its season by winning the Dalton CRA Robert "Boog" Powell Memorial Tournament.

Adams lost the tournament opener on Friday night to a tough Dalton team by a score of 32-27. It bounced back by winning consecutive games against North Adams to set up a rematch against Dalton in the finals.

Dalton jumped out to an early 8-0 lead with an aggressive full court press. The Adams girls answered with a 10-0 run of their own and they never looked back, taking the tournament title with a 42-27 win.

Ashlyn Lesure and Abby Scialabba led the way for Adams, scoring 12 points each. Hanna Shea pitched in eight points for Adams. But it was hard-nosed team defense that earned Adams the tournament championship.

Gamberoni and Esko led the way for Dalton with seven and six points, respectively.

Next up for Adams (4-1) is the “Albany Lady Falcons Snowball Classic” in Albany N.Y.

Adams Parts Ways With Police Chief

ADAMS, Mass. — The town has parted ways with its police chief.

K. Scott Kelley "is no longer employed by the Town of Adams," according to interim Town Administrator Holli Jayko.

The Board of Selectmen voted on Sept. 8 to put the police chief on a paid leave of absence but town officials have declined to answer repeated questions about the nature of the absence other than to clarify it was not a "suspension."

His departure follows an executive session held by the Selectmen last Wednesday to discuss a personnel matter other than professional competence, including health or discipline, or dismissal.

A request for further information on whether Kelley's leaving was through resignation or termination was not provided, or whether his contract had been paid out.

"The Town does not comment on personnel matters and will have no further comment on this matter at this time," responded Selectmen Chair John Duval via email on Friday.

Kelley, who moved here to take the post of chief in 2021, has reportedly sold his home.
