ADAMS, Mass. — A malnourished pit bull mix found by the Adams Police is doing better under the supervision of the Animal Control Officer.

The Adams Police Department took to Facebook Tuesday to provide an update on the malnourished dog found on the East Hoosac Street area in July and reported that the dog's conditions have improved, and the investigation is still open.

"We're happy to update people, that while the investigation is still open the dog is doing much better.  She is currently in private care under the supervision of our Animal Control Officer," the post said.

The police took to Facebook in late July after finding the dog in search of information. They posted a photo of the starved dog, that's ribs were clearly visible.

"We are extremely disheartened with the need to request any information on locating the owner of this dog," said the original post. "...She is beyond malnourished and we are working to contact vet services for assistance.  If anyone has any information please let us know.  She is a very sweet dog but appears to be blind as well."

The community quickly rallied around the animal, and the post generated over 400 comments and thousands of shares.

The police later updated the post indicating that the dog had been cleared by the vet and that the Animal Control Officer would facilitate any future efforts to help with the dog's care.

The August post also asked the public for donations to contribute to the ongoing medical care which includes daily doses of insulin among a specialized food diet.

Donations of checks can be made out to the "Town of Adams" and cash is certainly accepted at the Adams Police Department.

"Any donation will contribute to the ongoing care of this dog as well as future cases.  We want to thank everyone who has been supportive and understanding."
