WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Metropolitan Opera's production of "Ariadne Auf Naxos" screens at the Clark Art Institute on Saturday, March 12, at 12:55 pm in the latest installment of The Met: Live in HD. The award-winning series of live high-definition cinema simulcasts features the full live performance along with backstage interviews and commentary. 

 

Soprano Lise Davidsen makes her Live in HD debut in one of her signature roles as the mythological Greek heroine of Richard Strauss's enchanting masterpiece. The cast also features mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard as the composer of the opera-within-an-opera around which the plot revolves, with soprano Brenda Rae as the spirited Zerbinetta and tenor Brandon Jovanovich as Ariadne's lover, the god Bacchus. Marek Janowski conducts. 

 

In conjunction with the broadcast, the Clark's Manton Study Center for Works on Paper hosts a special pop-up exhibition of prints, drawings, and photographs inspired by the opera's play-within-a-play plot. The exhibition is offered at no cost and is on view from 11 am to 1 pm on March 12.

Seating capacity in the Clark's auditorium has been reduced for this season to accommodate greater social distancing. Tickets are limited to 100 guests and are selling quickly. Proof of COVID vaccination for all visitors age five and older is required. Additionally, all guests age five and older are required to wear facemasks at all times while inside the Clark's facilities.

 

The next Met: Live in HD performance is Don Carlos, airing Saturday, March 26 at 12:55pm. In conjunction with the presentation, the Clark's Manton Study Center for Works of Paper hosts a special pop-up exhibition of prints, drawings, and photographs inspired by the play-within-a-play plot of Strauss' opera. The Pop-Up is limited to 15 visitors on a first-come basis.
