ADAMS, Mass. – Nora Kondel went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs Thursday to lead the Adams-Cheshire-Savoy Swat to a 10-7 win over Dalton in the Berkshire County Fast Pitch Softball 14/16 division.
Kondel drove in a pair of runs in a five-run fifth inning that opened up a 9-5 lead for ACS.
Nora Moser earned the win on the mound, striking out 12 in a complete-game effort.
Sammy Kaley took the loss for Dalton (1-1) despite striking out nine. She also helped her cause by going 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple, a double and four runs batted in.
Dalton scored four times in the top of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead.
Alex Rougeau and Aubrey Dowd got things started by drawing back-to-back walks with one out. Riley Kinzer and Sydney Payson each singled to bring in a run and load the bases for Kaley, who launched a triple to left field to give her team a one-run lead.
Moser settled down and got the next two hitters to strike out and strand Kaley at third.
Then ACS (1-0) went to work with the bats, batting around and plating five runs to retake the lead.
The first of three Wahconah errors in the inning allowed the leadoff hitter to reach first.
Moser singled and reached second on error No. 2, and Aloni Luczynski singled to right to drive in a pair of runs and give ACS the lead, 6-5.
Kaley Bachand singled to set up first-and-third and then stole second to put two in scoring position.
With two out, Knodel drove in a pair of insurance runs with a single to left. She eventually came home on an RBI double from Aiden Champney (2-for-4).
Ash Lesure (2-for-5) drove in another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 10-5.
In the top of the seventh, Kalee Prew led off with a single and scored on Kaley’s one-out double. Kaley ended up scoring on Delayna Helms’ single. And Dalton had runners on second and third with two out before Moser got the potential tying run on a strikeout.
The summer travel league continues next Thursday when the Swat travels to North Adams to face the Greylock Thunder. Wahconah’s next game is July 11 at home against the Thunder.

Cheshire Festival of Trees on View Until Dec. 31
By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff
Businesses, nonprofits, schools and town departments provided trees for the display that reflected their missions or services.
CHESHIRE, Mass. — There is still time to experience the festive atmosphere of the Community House.
The moment you step into the town offices, you're greeted by the scent of fresh pine wafting from about 70 beautifully decorated trees on display.
The town's festival of trees will be on display Monday through Thursday from 10 to 4, Friday and Saturday from 10 to 8, and Sunday from 10 to 5 until Dec. 31. The building will be closed Dec. 24 and 25.
The idea started four years ago with Department of Public Works Director Corey McGrath's vision to display a decorated, lighted tree in all 13 windows of the Community House, the former Cheshire School.
A large part of it was to bring the community back into the building that was a mess five years ago, he said.
The purpose of the building is in its name — a community pillar housing the town offices and Youth Center Inc., and a community hub featuring activities from dancing, craft fairs, wrestling, and more.
Since its establishment, the display has grown into the festival it is today featuring raffles, a Christmas village, nutcrackers, and, of course, trees.
