MassDOT: South County Road Maintenance

LEE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing crews will be conducting daytime and overnight hour guardrail repair, drainage work, bridge repair, tree trimming, traffic marking, and erosion control operations at various locations and times on I-90 eastbound and westbound during the week of Monday, May 13.

Lane closures will be in place during the construction operations and traffic will be able to travel through the work zones.  The schedule for the work and lane closures will be as follows: 

Otis/Blandford 

  • Drainage work will be conducted on I-90 eastbound between mile marker 23.0 to 25.0 from Monday, May 13, through Thursday, May 16, from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the next morning. The work is expected to conclude by 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17.
  • Guardrail repair operations will be conducted nightly on I-90 westbound between mile marker 23.0 and mile marker 25.0 from Monday, May 13, through Thursday, May 16, from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the next morning. The work is expected to conclude by 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17.

Otis

  • Bridge repair work will be conducted nightly on I-90 eastbound and westbound at mile marker 22.5, from Monday, May 13, through Thursday, May 16, from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the next morning. The work is expected to conclude by 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17.

Blandford

  • Bridge repair work will be conducted nightly on I-90 eastbound and westbound at mile marker 26.6 from Monday, May 13, through Thursday, May 16, from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the next morning. The work is expected to conclude by 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17.

Russell

  • Tree trimming work will be conducted daily on I-90 westbound between mile marker 31.0 to mile marker 33.0, from Monday, May 13, through Friday, May 17, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. 

Stockbridge/West Stockbridge

  • Erosion control and guardrail work will be conducted nightly on I-90 eastbound and westbound from mile marker 0.0 to 7.8, from Monday, May 13, through Thursday, May 16, from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the next morning. The work is expected to conclude by 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17.

Stockbridge

  • Traffic marking operations will be conducted daily on I-90 eastbound and westbound at mile marker 7.5, from Wednesday, May 15, through Friday, May 17, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day.

West Stockbridge

  • Traffic marking operations will be conducted daily on I-90 eastbound and westbound at mile marker 0.6, from Wednesday, May 15, through Friday, May 17, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day.

Lee

  • Drainage work will be conducted nightly on I-90 eastbound from mile marker 7.8 to 14.5, on Monday, May 13, through Thursday, May 16, from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the next morning. The work is expected to conclude by 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17.
  • Drainage work will be conducted nightly on I-90 westbound from mile marker 8.5 to 10.0, on Wednesday, May 15, and Thursday, May 16, from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the next morning. The work is expected to conclude by 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. 

Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.  

All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.

Meeting on Potential Purchase of Housatonic Water Works

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The town will set an October outreach meeting to gain residents' feedback on draft findings from an investigation into the feasibility of the town acquiring and operating Housatonic Water Works. 
 
The decision over a town acquisition of HWW would ultimately be made by voters at a town meeting. 
 
The outreach discussion will follow several years of legal and financial study into the town's possible acquisition of the water company, due to water quality issues for many HWW customers. The town hired DPC Engineering from Longmeadow and Harwich Port to evaluate the potential operation and acquisition of HWW.
 
Town Manager Mark Pruhenski said he also hopes to clarify the role of the town manager and Selectboard in the HWW matter. 
 
"We are responsible for representing customers of Housatonic water in a pending rate case with the state Department of Public Utilities and for investigating the possibilities for a long-term solution to the ownership and operation of the company," said Pruhenski. 
 
The town Board of Health is accepting and forwarding water quality complaints to the state Department of Environmental Protection.
 
"While the Selectboard is focused on questions of potential future ownership and operation of HWW, we urge town residents to contact the Board of Health and state DEP regarding water quality," said Pruhenski.
