Naumkeag Pumpkin Show Returns in October

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — For the sixth year, thousands of carved pumpkins and "gently spooky" attractions await visitors at a variety of Trustees of Reservations properties this fall including the Incredible Naumkeag Pumpkin Show.
 
The Incredible Naumkeag Pumpkin Show will be open Wednesdays through Sundays from Oct. 1-31.
 
Each show includes thousands of carved pumpkins, mums, light displays, and themed decorated areas all set among the grounds of the two historic properties. Both shows will have new elements this year, including interactive displays. The pumpkin shows are family-friendly events geared toward all ages.
 
New this year are two additional daytime timeslots on Saturdays and Sundays,12–2 p.m. and 2–4 p.m. at Naumkeag. The new daytime options let visitors enjoy the show at their own pace. Guests selecting the noon or 2 p.m. timeslots may stay for up to two hours. Plan to arrive within 15 minutes of the ticketed time. 
 
The daytime tickets cannot be extended into evening hours, which begin at 4 p.m.
 
Timed-entry tickets are required for each show. Tickets are not sold at the event venues and must be purchased in advance online at www.thetrustees.org/halloween.

Berkshire Special Olympics Returns to Monument Mountain

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Hundreds of athletes of all ages converged at Monument Mountain Regional High School Wednesday for the 45th annual Berkshire County Special Olympics meet.
 
Runners, jumpers and throwers from throughout the county put themselves to the test and were recognized for their accomplishments.
 
As always, one of the highlights of the day was the banner parade, when Special Olympians from various teams make their way around the track to be honored by the fans in attendance.
 
This year, the newly-created Lee High School/Monument Mountain Unified Sports team had the honor of leading the athletes behind a contingent of local law enforcement officers.
 
Unified Sports, an initiative of Special Olympics and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, allows students with intellectual disabilities to compete in basketball in the winter and track in the summer alongside peers without disabilities while representing their schools.
 
Coaches varsity student-athletes from around South County participated in Wednesday’s event, helping to coordinate competition on two sides of the track and throughout the infield.
 
This year’s meet was dedicated to the memory of longtime Special Olympian Michele Adler, who competed for the Berkshire County-based Red Raiders team for more than 20 years and represented Massachusetts as a bowler at the 2010 USA Games.
