Clayton Crews, 92

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Clayton B. Crews, 92, of North Adams, died on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Claire, and a loving father to his five children.
Clayton was born Oct. 29, 1928, in North Adams, son of Harry and Lillian Croft Crews. He attended local schools.
He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean War as a corporal with the Second Armored Division in Germany. A half-track operator, he was given a special award, "A Real Hellion," by his division. We are pretty sure he had a heavy foot on the gas pedal! He was employed by his father as a cabinet maker in the Wood Work Shop on State Road. He also worked for Goodrich in Pittsfield and was last employed at Gordon & Sutton, where he worked for many years as a construction supervisor before his retirement.
During his earlier years, he enjoyed building model ships, fishing with his children, gardening, bowling with his wife Claire, and playing cards. In his later years, he enjoyed doing puzzles, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
Clayton married the former Mary "Claire" Taylor on May 26, 1956. After 43 years together, sadly, Claire died on Feb. 22, 1999. He is also predeceased by his father, Harry, in 1957; his mother, Lillian, in 1990, and his brother Donald Crews in 1999.
He is survived by his two sons and their wives, David and Jane (Yorke), James and Lisa (Garvie); his three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and David Luczynski, Laureen and Bruce Richards, Dorothy Wetteland; his seven grandchildren, including Amy Patenaude and her husband, Mark, Ryan Richards and his wife, Becky, Peter Wetteland, Paul Wetteland, Nicole Luczynski, Katelyn Banks and her husband, Patrick, and four great-grandchildren, including Emily Patenaude and Olivia Patenaude.
