Lucas Alexander Solak, 9

The bravest boy who ever lived was born to Kristen Greathead on September 24, 2015 in Boston, MA followed one minute later by his brother (and true other half) Christopher. Lucas faced many health challenges, some related to his Down Syndrome, but overcame everyone. Lucas and Christopher came home to their forever family on June 19, 2017, with their Mama and Daddy Jennifer (Konopka) and Scott Solak.
Lucas loved Peppa Pig, playing on as many screens as he could at once (and syncing them perfectly in any language!), Target trips, Disney World, giving smooches, Pa’s pretzels, riding lessons at Blue Rider (working so hard for his Becky!), and full-body giggles. Lucas was lucky to be part of the Hoosac Valley Elementary School community. Lu loved his friends in Bridges, especially his best buddy Liam, and all of his teachers and paras. He was extra excited any time he saw “his” Miss Caitlin, Ms. Tenczar, Miss Erin, and of course his Bev. He put many miles in running through the halls bringing everyone he could find along with him, especially Nurse Ashley.
We like to say that Lucas collected his people wherever he went. His superpower was bringing people together and he was just irresistible. During his cancer treatments he found an army of nurses, doctors, and therapists who saw how special he was and went above and beyond even when he had left their floor. We will always be grateful to his nurses on 6NE at Boston Children’s, his nurses at the Jimmy Fund Clinic, Taylor, Juliet, Elisa Fredericks, and of course our fearless leader in his fight: Dr. Melissa Burns. Even in the ICU, Lucas’ light shine through and we are grateful he was fought for so hard. We were lucky Lu was cared for by the best, including Dr. Dave Kantour who never gave up on our boy.
The biggest hole Lucas leaves behind will be in the hearts of his family. His mama feels so lucky to have spent every minute of the last 7 months by his side. His daddy will always know he was Lu’s person. Christopher wants everyone to know he will always be a twin and that his favorite thing about Lucas was “Everything!” Lucas was loved by his grandparents Anita and Chuck Mosher (Nannie and Pa) and Mark and Susan Solak (Grampa and Grammie), his special great aunt Susan Konopka, his aunts and uncles: Pete Konopka and Haley Palumbo, Aaron Mosher, and Holly Solak and Josh Allen. Lucas loved to spend time with all of his cousins, who all did such a good job making him laugh and smile. Lucas leaves behind so much extended family and his biological family who have loved him so well, but would fill pages to list.
Although you may read this and feel so sad because 9 year olds aren’t supposed to leave us, Lucas’ message to you all would be to read this and then find YOUR people and love them hard. He taught us well.
