Louis M. Shogry Jr., 73
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Louis Michael Shogry, Jr., 73 of 351 South St. died Wednesday morning, Dec. 6, 2000, at his home.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 26, 1927, a son Louis M. Shogry Sr. and Bessie Rabay Shogry, he attended schools in Pittsfield and was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
A Marine veteran of the Korean War, he received the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Medal.
Mr. Shogry was an accountant, establishing his practice in 1961. He began his training as an accountant with Henry Sykes & Associates. He then worked at many area retailers in the capacity of controller.
He was a founding board member of Berkshire Community College and a member of the Massachusetts and National societies of certified public accountants and the Massachusetts Board of Public Accountants, serving as president during his last year of tenure.
He was a member of UNICO, the Italian-American Club Of Pittsfield and Sons of Italy ITAM Lodge 564, for which he was treasurer. He also was a member of the Berkshire County Deputy Sheriffs Association, the Pittsfield Exchange Club, the Syrian Lebanese-American Club and the Richmond Shores Civic Association. Her served on the board of the Christian Youth Center board and was a communicant of St. Teresa's Church, serving on its parish council and as finance chairman.
Mr. Shogry also was a member and treasurer of the Berkshire County Republican Association and a member of the Wahconah Country Club of Dalton.
He and his wife the former, Elizabeth M. Salvadore, were married April l8, 1953.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Louis M. Shogry III and his wife, Jayne, of New Milford, Conn.; two daughters, Kathryn E. Garson of Pittsfield and Mary A. Sbogry-Hayer and her husband, Mark P. Hayer, of Adams; four brothers, Edward L. Shogry and Richard L. Shogry both of Charleston, S.C., Alfred L. Shogry of Pittsfield and Theodore L. Shogry of Windsor; two sisters, Helen George of Williamstown and Mildred Billings of Pittsfield, and his five adored grandchildren, Sarah E. Garson, Jonathon D. Garson, Alisa M. Garson, Louis M. Shogry IV, and Kenneth P. Shogry.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Catherine Caron and Louise George, and a brother, Albert Shogry.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services of Mr. Shogry will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial st 9 a.m. at St. Teresa's Church, celebrated by the Rev. John J. Varley, pastor. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in his memeory may be made to Hospice Care of the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
