Gwendolyn M. Primmer, 90

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Gwendolyn May Primmer, 90, of 440 East Main St. died Friday evening, Feb. 20, 2004, at home. Born at home in the city's Blackinton section on May 7, 1913, daughter of Fred E. and Bessie May Lamon Sutton, she graduated from Drury High School in 1930 and attended the former Bliss Business College. Mrs. Primmer was employed at the former Sprague Electric Co.'s Brown Street division until 1950. Before that, she worked for the former Gordon and Sutton Inc. General Contractors, then for the North Adams Public Library. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She also was a member of United Methodist Women, the Friendly Circle and former Afternoon Circle of the church, and the local TOPS chapter. Her husband, I. Weston Primmer, whom she married April 28, 1932, died Aug. 30, 1976. She leaves two daughters, Shirley Norman of North Adams, with whom she resided, and Sandra Cozzaglio of Lee; two sons, Fred D. Primmer of Clarksburg and Weston G. Primmer of North Adams; a sister, Helena DeWaele of Largo, Fla.; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Ray E. Sutton, and a cousin, Phyllis Sutton Flaherty, whom she had helped raise from childhood. FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mrs. Primmer will be conducted Friday, Feb. 27, at 11 at First United Methodist Church of North Adams by the Rev. Susan Stewart, pastor. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, will be Thursday, Feb. 26, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are suggested for First United Methodist Church through the funeral home.
