John E. Lee

John E. Lee, 68, of 45 Spring St. died Tuesday at North Adams Regional Hospital after a long illness. Born in Williamstown on March 10, 1937, son of Hazel Exford Lee Boyd of Williamstown and the late Roy I. Lee, he attended schools there, including the former Williamstown High School. A Navy veteran, he served eight years on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga and on the USS Yellowstone. He then served in the Army for four years as a sergeant. Mr. Lee was employed for several years as a printer at the former Arnold Print Works. He also worked at the former Rosa Restaurant. He and his wife, the former Lorraine Masson, celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary Jan. 1. They were married in St. Anthony's Church. Besides his mother and wife, of Williamstown, he leaves three daughters, Tina M. Rolnick of Readsboro, Vt., Cindy Richardson of North Adams and Wendy L. Martin of Adams; a son, Peter J. Lee of North Adams; five sisters, Hazel A. "Dolly" Hancock of North Adams, Jane Mongeon of Cheshire, Tracy Lee of North Adams, Bonnie Jean Bombardier of Adams and Gail M. Baldwin of Ohio; a brother, Royce R. Lee of Williamstown; eight grandchildren; a step-grandson, and 10 great-grandchildren. Another son, John E. Lee Jr., died in infancy. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private funeral for John E. Lee will be conducted Friday at 11 at Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel in Williamstown by the Rev. James Harkins. Burial with full military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the North Adams Ambulance Service through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME for FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Survivors include eight grandchildren, Holly and Danny Rolnick, Mechelle Thoman, Jennifer Richardson, Angie Levesque, James J. Martin, Joshua S. Martin, Nicholas W. Martin; a stepgrandson, Mathew Grey; 10 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Diane Lee; two sons-in-law, Robert Rolnick and Wesley Martin, and two brothers-in-law, Robert Mongeon and James Baldwin. His family meant the world to him. He was a great man and his family loves him dearly.
