John S. Babula

John S. Babula, 77, of 2028 Small Town Drive, New Braunfels, Texas, a native of Adams and former teacher at Charles H. McCann Vocational Technical High School, died early Friday morning at home. He was a former Adams Town Meeting member and served on the Planning Board. Born on Sept. 4, 1928, son of Roman and Mary Adamczyk Babula, he was a 1947 graduate of the former Adams High School. He received his bachelor of science degree from Southeastern Massachusetts University and took graduate courses at Westfield and Fitchburg state colleges, and at the former North Adams State College. He also took courses in welding, machine shop and woodworking. Mr. Babula served with the Army during the Korean War. He worked at the former Berkshire Hathaway Mill, where he was plant superintendent, until the mill was liquidated in 1968. He also worked as supervisor of the maintenance department at the former Budd Co. Paper Mill for several years. He became an instructor of plant maintenance at McCann in 1964, when that program was first developed, and continued there until his retirement in 1990. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church, where he served as a lector, and a member of its St. Stanislaus Kostka Society. He also was a member of the Adams Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed coin and stamp collecting. He and his wife, the former Elaine J. Kleiner, celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary Sept. 3. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, James Babula of Augusta, Ga., and Robert Babula of New Braunfels; a daughter, Ann Lenkowski of Northampton; a brother, Chester Babula of North Adams, and five grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for John S. Babula will be Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 9 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Stanislaus' Church in Adams celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic Parishes of Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus' Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Monday, Sept. 12, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. He also leaves two daughters-in-law, Deanna Babula of Augusta, Ga., and Dawn Babula of New Braunfels, Texas; a son-in-law, Paul Lenkowski of Northampton; five grandchildren, Ryan and Megan Babula of Augusta, Tyler and Nicole Babula of New Braunfels, and Seth Berti of Northampton, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
