Mary Ann Gwozdz

Mary Ann Gwozdz, 93, of 418 Fales Road died Monday at her home. Born in Adams on May 16, 1913, daughter of Johann and Maria Breidenbach Schneider, she moved with her family to a farm on Stafford Hill as a child. She attended Cheshire schools and assisted her family in the operation of the farm. Mrs. Gwozdz and her late husband, John J. Gwozdz, operated the former East Cheshire Poultry Farm, later raising a raspberry crop there. She also worked at the former Petri Cleaners and Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams. She last worked for the Corbin family at the former British Maid restaurant in Williamstown. She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Cheshire. She was a member of the Savoy and Cheshire senior citizens clubs. Her husband, whom she married Nov. 24, 1938, died Aug. 14, 1986. She leaves two daughters, Barbara Gordon of Dalton and Patricia Webb of Grants Pass, Ore.; three sons, John J. Gwozdz Jr. of Cheshire, Joseph Gwozdz of Cheshire and Arthur Gwozdz of Westford, Vt.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mary Ann Gwozdz, 93, who died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, will be held Friday, Dec. 29 at 8:45 a.m. from PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Cheshire, celebrated by the Rev. David Raymond, pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Savoy Senior Center or St. Mary of the Assumption Church, in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Gwozdz leaves two sons-in-law, Arthur Gordon of Dalton and Lee Webb of Grants Pass, Ore.; and three daughters-in-law, Linda of Cheshire, Nancy of Cheshire and Cathy of Westford. She was predeceased by two brothers, Nicholas and Joseph Schneider, and a sister, Elizabeth Bentz. She enjoyed senior bus trips, mushrooming and hunting, and reminiscing about her early life of farming with her family. She also enjoyed the company of animals, especially horses and dogs, and doting on her parakeet, Chicky.
