Mildred (Jill) Weaver

Mildred (Jill) Weaver, 93, of 95 West Avenue, Great Barrington, died Thursday April 5, 2007 at home. She was born March 26, 1914 in Brooklyn, N.Y. daughter of Abraham and Fanny Fukshananu Stier. A long time resident, Jill was a well known fixture on the Great Barrington arts scene. She was a founding member of the Bach Society and a regular contributor to the performing arts in the Berkshires. A Broadway chorus girl whose stage name was Mildred Jocelyn, she got her lucky break while an understudy in the hit show, Are You With It?. Jill was soon tapped for the leading role and went on to star on Broadway in Up in Central Park, Sweethearts, and the revival of Showboat. She then hit the concert circuit, had a radio program whose theme song (Berceuse de Jocelyn) was influenced by her friend, Cole Porter, and gave concerts in the United States, Canada and abroad. She was known for her four and a half octave range and her specialty in Scottish songs. Jill was married to Richard (Dick) Weaver (deceased), a Broadway publicist and producer who was a founding member of the American Theatre Wing. She is survived by her sons, Christopher and Jed, her grandson Isaac (Zack), and her daughters in law, Nanci Ross Weaver and Sunja Weaver, and the many friends whose lives she touched. A graveside service for Mildred (Jill) Weaver who died Thursday April 5, 2007 was held on Friday April 6, 2007 at the Ahavath Sholem Cemetery, Great Barrington, MA with the Rabbi Barbara Cohen, Spiritual Leader of the Ahavath Sholem Synagogue, officiating. Birches Roy Funeral Home 33 South Street Great Barrington, MA. was in charge of arrangements.
