Elizabeth "Sis" Naventi

Elizabeth "Sis" Naventi, 78, died Tuesday of Alzheimer's disease at Laurel Lake Center, where she had resided for two years. Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 4, 1929, daughter of Raymond J. and Kathleen Shields Driscoll, she grew up in Lenox Dale and moved to Lee in 1943. She was a 1946 graduate of Lee High School and a 1948 graduate of the former Pittsfield Secretarial School. Mrs. Naventi worked as a medical secretary at Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge for two years before raising her family. She was a Brownie troop leader and a Cub Scout den mother and taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine for many years at St. Mary's School. She enjoyed music and walking on the beach at Cape Cod, where she and her family vacationed for more than 50 years. She married her high school sweetheart, Louis P. Naventi, on June 4, 1949, at St. Mary's Church. Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Peter A. Naventi of Lee; four daughters, Kathy Naventi-Brown and Louise Naventi-Lucchese, both of Lee, Peggy Naventi Hashim of Pittsfield and Mary Ann Naventi of Milford, Conn.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Elizabeth "Sis" Naventi, who died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, will be Friday at 9:15 a.m. from KELLY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or to the Alzheimer's Organization, both in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. Blessed with a beautiful voice, she sang at the Morgan House Restaurant in Lee, which was owned for many years by Margaret and Earl Pero, her aunt and uncle. She and her husband, Louie, loved to tell the story that they were married twice because they played the roles of bride and groom in their senior high school play. She is also lovingly survived by her daughter- and sons-in-law, Diane R. Naventi, Martin T. Brown, Nicholas L. Lucchese and James R. Hashim; her grandchildren, Brian J., Rebecca L. and Jeffrey A. Hashim, Matthew P., Elsie P., Andrew J. and Madeline L. Naventi, and Brandon M. Gawron; and her great-grandchildren, Evan and Mitchell Brown. She was predeceased by her brother and sister, James D. and Frances K. Driscoll. She and Louie especially loved dogs, and they were always happy when their daughters' dogs, Murphy, Winston and Cady, came to stay.
