Anthony Raymond Scieszka

Anthony Raymond Scieszka, 76, of 45 Burt St., died Tuesday at his home. Born in Adams on April 6, 1931, son of the late Felix and Aniela (Grzebien) Scieszka, he attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School, and graduated from the former Adams High School in 1950. He was a veteran of the Army. Mr. Scieszka had worked part-time at the Stop & Shop Supermarket in North Adams for the past 12 years. Earlier, he had worked at General Electric Co. in Pittsfield for 25 years, and, still earlier, he worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams, and at J. Zepka and Sons Florists and Nurseries in Adams. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, and was a member of the Adams Senior Citizens. He was an avid bowler, and had been a member of the Tri-City League at Valley Park Lanes in North Adams, as well as several other bowling leagues. He also enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble, collecting stamps, and was a Boston Red Sox fan. His wife, the former Lorraine D. Kuzia, whom he married on Dec. 20, 1975, died on Jan. 2, 2005. He leaves two sons, Michael Alvarez, of Pittsfield, and David Alvarez of Roseville, Calif.; two daughters, Christina Jarrett and Juanita Alvarez, both of Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, Felix Scieszka of Adams; one sister, Dola Lipinski of Adams; and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Anthony Raymond Scieszka, who died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, will be held on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, Pastor of the Catholic Parishes of Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stanislaus Church or to the American Heart Association through the funeral home. He also leaves two daughters-in-law, Mimi Alvarez of Pittsfield, and Roxanne Alvarez of Roseville, Calif.; a son-in-law, John Jarrett, of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Pina Scieszka, of Adams; and brother-in-law, Joseph Lipinski, of Adams. He was predeceased by five brothers, Stanley, Frank, John, Gregory and Lt. Joseph Scieszka, who died in World War II; and by three sisters, Veronica Fenelon, Mary Weaver and Sophie Hartwig.
