Anthony J. Magnano

Anthony J. Magnano, 87, of Laurel Lake Assisted Living Center, formerly of 49 Longfellow Ave., Pittsfield, died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield before moving to Laurel Lake in April 2004. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 16, 1920, son of Thomas and Rose Monitto Magnano, he was a 1938 graduate of Pittsfield High School. A World War II veteran, he served with the 303th Army Airborne Squadron and did tours of duty in England and Africa. A licensed pipefitter and plumber, Mr. Magnano was employed by General Electric Co. in the power transformer department for 47 years, retiring in 1986. He was a communicant of All Souls' Church and a charter member of the Rainbow Club. He was also a member of the Italian-American Club, the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and the General Electric Athletic Association. He enjoyed reading, playing golf, gardening, bike riding and walking, and was a longtime follower of Lee High School football. His wife, the former Ida D. Rodrigues, whom he married May 7, 1948, at St. Joseph's Church, died April 19, 2004. He leaves a son, Thomas Magnano of Phoenix; a daughter, Sandy Consolati of Lee; and a granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Anthony J. Magnano, who died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, will be Friday at 10:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at All Souls' Church celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Magnano may be made to the Lee Middle and High School Library Fund, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. Mr. Magnano also leaves a son-in-law, Steve Consolati; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Magnano; and a granddaughter, Jenna Consolati. He was predeceased by two brothers, Vincent and Paul Magnano.

I came across this notice. You can't imagine how I felt when I saw this. Sooo many times I wanted to pick up the phone and tell your parents how much of an impression they made on me. I am truly sorry they're gone.
