Neale A. Clayton Sr., 75

OTIS - Neale A. Clayton Sr., 75, of 367 West Center Road, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canaan, Conn. Born in East Dorset, Vt., on Feb. 15, 1932, son of Edwin L. and Irene Hazelton Clayton, he was a 1950 graduate of Burr and Burton Seminary in Manchester, Vt. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1950 to 1954 aboard the submarine Flying Fish 229. Mr. Clayton later entered the apprentice toolmaker program at General Electric Co. He worked at General Electric in Pittsfield for 38 years, retiring in 1992 as a manufacturing engineer. He was a member of Hope Advent Christian Church in Lenox and a member of the Greenock Country Club in Lee and its Wednesday morning senior league. He was also a member of the bridge club at the Italian-American Club in Pittsfield. He enjoyed reading, traveling and carpentry. His first wife, the former Audrey Brown, died Dec. 12, 1988. He and his wife, the former Barbara Gleason, were married Oct. 5, 1991. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Army Sgt. 1st Class Neale A. Clayton Jr., stationed in Afghanistan, Carey L. Clayton of St. Johns, Ariz., and Toby L. Clayton of Milner, Ga.; two stepsons, Raymond S. Utenis of Otis and Richard S. Utenis of Winchester Center, Conn.; five daughters, Joan A. Johnson of Pittsfield, Luann Vermes of West Springfield, Mary I. Both of Elizabeth, Pa., Trudy J. Clayton of Marietta, Ga., and Jodie M. Clayton of Pittsfield; five brothers, Kenneth Clayton of Shirley, Alford Clayton and Arnold Clayton, both of Arlington, Vt., Jerold Clayton of North Bennington, Vt., and Richard Clayton of Clarksburg, W.Va.; two sisters, Ethel McWayne-Greene of Benson, Vt. and Janice Bruce of Little Falls, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Edwin Clayton and Baby Boy Clayton. FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Neale A. Clayton Sr. will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hope Church in Lenox. Burial will be in the spring in the Otis Cemetery. Visiting hours at Kelly Funeral Home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to Hope Church or to Alzheimer's Disease Research in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St. Lee, MA 01238.
