Julia A. Curtiss, 72
SHEFFIELD — Julia A. Curtiss, 72, of South Main Street died Monday morning, May 19, 2008, at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington.
Born in Great Barrington on July 24, 1935, the daughter of Peter and Mary Kotletski Parzick, she attended local schools including the former Searles High School.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Curtiss raised eight children and was an active member of the community. She was a former member of the Sheffield Kiwanis Club, the Canaan (Conn.) Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary and Daughters of Isabella.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield and later of St. Joseph's Church in Canaan. She enjoyed spending time bowling and working with ceramics.
Her husband, Richard Thomas Curtiss, whom she married July 10, 1954, died in 1995.
She leaves three sons, Thomas Curtiss of Southfield, Richard "Rickie" Curtiss and his wife, Sharon, of Ashley Falls, and Russell Curtiss of Sheffield; four daughters, Gail Louise Stiehle and her husband, John Scott Stiehle, of
Great Barrington, Lee Ann Curtiss Baincucci of Harwinton, Conn., Mary Engle and her husband, Larry, of Bunnell, Fla., and Julie Ann Curtiss of Torrington, Conn.; two sisters, Christine Garfield of Canaan and Patricia Parsons of Great Barrington; nine grandchildren, a great-grandchild and her dearest friends, especially Sandy and Sue Ann Plain.
She was predeceased by her son William Joseph "Billie" Curtiss in 1975 and grandson Nicholas Bancucci in 2006.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A graveside service celebrating the life of Julia A. Curtiss will be conducted on Friday, May 23, at 11 a.m. at Ashley Falls Cemetery on Clayton Road by the Rev. Betty LeGeyt.
