Carole P. Maghery, 78
SHEFFIELD â€' Carole Pearce Maghery, 78, of Bowwow Road died Monday, June 23, 2008, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, on Aug. 3, 1929, daughter of John Merrill and Helene Pearce Hanley, she attended Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Wheaton College and Katharine Gibbs School. She moved to the area in the early 1950s
Mrs. Maghery worked briefly as a secretary at the Parker House Hotel in Boston before her marriage. She and her husband, the late Richared Leo Maghery, were the proprietors of the Ivanhoe Country House, a bed and breakfast, from 1969 to 2000.
She was an avid and knowledgeable sports fan, following high school football, basketball, gymnastics and baseball teams that her husband coached at Mount Everett Regional School, teams on which her children and grandchildren played, college basketball and, always, the Red Sox.
Her husband, who first taught at the former New Marlborough High School, died in May 2002. They were married Aug. 26, 1950, in Taunton.
She leaves a daughter, Carole Maghery King of Sheffield; a son, Daniel Maghery and his wife, Leisa, of Irwin, Pa.; six grandchildren, Cecily, Haley, Chloe and Caleb King of Sheffield, and Kaitlyn and Tyler Maghery of Irwin, and three nieces, Julie Markham Hannum, Pamela McGrath and Patricia Black.
She was predeceased by a sister, Joan Hanley Markham, in 1957.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Funeral services for Carole P. Maghery will be conducted on Friday, June 27, at 2 from Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington by the Rev. Belle Fox-Martin. Burial will follow in Sheffield Center Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 27, from noon until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Bosox Club, an organization established by fans of the Boston Red Sox to promote baseball and assist the team in its community and charitable endeavors.
