Anita L. Lentine, 89
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Anita Lucine Lentine, 89, of 153 Phelps Ave. died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in Easthampton on June 8, 1921, daughter of Wilfred and Aldea Lafond Lapointe, she graduated from Easthampton High School in 1939 and from what was then Massachusetts State College at Amherst in 1943 with a bachelor's degree in science. She worked as a dietitian at St. Luke's Hospital in New York City for two years. She moved to North Adams in 1946 following her marriage.
Mrs. Lentine was primarily a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church and a member of its bazaar committee and chairman of its Christmas booth.
She was president of the Ladies' Auxiliaries of both Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion and Dr. George L. Curran VFW Post 996. She was also a member of the Westover Post Disabled American Veterans Ladies' Auxiliary. She was a member of the board of directors of the North Adams Historical Society and volunteered at its museum. She volunteered for Veterans Affairs and was voted one of the 50 most influential people in North Berkshire.
She enjoyed sewing and reading and was an avid New York Yankees fan. The family would like everyone to know they have lost a great person.
Her husband, Clyde Lentine, whom she married on June 15, 1946, died on Feb. 5, 1974.
She leaves two daughters, Janet Pertierra and her husband, James, of Cohoes, N.Y., and Patricia Lentine, with whom she made her home; three sons, Francis Lentine and his wife, Mildred, of Binghamton, N.Y., John Lentine and his wife, Vicki, of Townsend, and Christopher Lentine of New York City; a brother, Norman Lapointe of Jacksonville, Vt.; a sister, Marguerite Desmarais, of Chesterfield; five grandsons, Timothy Lentine and his wife, Toniann Alfieri, of Framingham, Bret Lentine, a former Army Ranger who served four tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, now of Townsend; and Matthew Pertierra and his partner, Heather Sheahan, and Daniel Pertierra and Mark Pertierra, all of Cohoes, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, Anthony John and Graciella Anita; and many nieces and nephews.
Five brothers are deceased: Wilfred, Clarence, Adelord, David and Raymond LaPointe.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Lentine will be celebrated Saturday, July 10, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
