Drury Boys Beat Hoosac, Clinch League Title

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- A memorable season for the Drury boys soccer team got a little bit sweeter on Monday afternoon when the Blue Devils defeated Hoosac Valley, 4-1, to clinch the Berkshire South Division title.
 
““It’s a great feeling, we've been playing great soccer all year,” Drury coach John Jacobbe said. “It came down to today and beating our rival, these seniors and junior have never beat Hoosac before.”
 
Drury received scoring plays from Jon Boland and Reece Racette while Hoosac (3-7-1) received its score from Steven Crouch. The games scoring started slow but picked up late. 
 
The match started with strong defense from both sides. The first goal came in the 13th minute when Hoosac midfielder Steven Crouch received a pass from forward Keagan McGrath to center the ball just outside the penalty box and slotted the ball past the Blue Devils goaltender.
 
Drury answered the Hoosac goal late in the first half. In the 30th minute,Jon Boland ran down a through ball from Mitchell Anderson and scored on the aggressive Hoosac goaltender who left his net to challenge. The first half ended in a 1-1 tie.
 
Drury started the second half quickly scoring in the third minute. The Blue Devils converted a miss kick from a Hoosac defender. Reece Racette scored his first goal on the Hoosac miscue from inside the Hoosac penalty box. Drury scored again in the eighth minute, when Racette fed Boland for his second of the game. Drury’s fourth goal of the came when Racette netted his second of the game off of a crossbar rebound. 
 
For the unbeaten Blue Devils (13-0-2), the milestones continue to pile up.
 
“Our goal this year was to make the tournament, we did that, our goal was to win the South, we did that, now our goal is to get a home game and win a tournament game,” Jacobbe said.
 
Drury’s next game is against Monson on Wednesday.
 
Hoosac next game is against St. Joe on Wednesday.
