Two teams on different ends of the county had similar success this week, and the iBerkshires.com/Adams Community Bank Athletes of the Week were two big reasons why.

In South County, the Lee softball team got a thrilling walk-off win over Lenox for its first victory of the year on Tuesday and came back with a solid road win over Commerce two days later.

In the Lee game, freshman Kylie Joyce went 4-for-4 at the plate and scored four times. Two of those steals were steals of home, among her five steals in the game and team-high 10 swipes this season.

"She can steal every base for me," Lee coach Harold Heath said. "You saw that today."

Joyce is a leader for the young 2-4 Wildcats, who go to Hoosc Valley on Tuesday.

"She's only a freshman," Heath said. "I've had her since seventh grade.

"I have got no seniors, no juniors on this team. ... My center fielder is starting as a seventh graders. I had three starters out there in the seventh grade. ... Kylie is an example for the girls I have. They need to watch her."

While Joyce was leading Lee to victory on the softball field behind Lee Elementary, Mount Greylock senior Michael Wellspeak was leading the Mounties to victory in boys lacrosse on the other side of the campus.

Wellspeak had a hat trick and set up seven goals in that win.

He had another hat trick two days later in a win over Hoosac Valley at home and scored four times -- including the game-winner in overtime -- in Saturday's win at Mount Anthony in Vermont.

For the season, Wellspeak has 20 goals for the 5-2 Mounties, who play Hoosac Valley on Monday.

The iBerkshires.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Adams Community Bank.
