McCann's senior striker, Mary Nguyen, has played a large role in the Hornets' 3-0 start to the season. Led by Nguyen's nose for the goal, McCann has won its first three games by a combined score of 18-0.

Nguyen first came through with three goals and an assist in the Hornets' season-opening 6-0 win over Mount Everett last Friday. Nguyen simply took over in her team's next game on Tuesday, scoring four goals in the first 23 minutes of the match to carry McCann to a 4-0 win over Westfield Voc. Had Hornets' head coach Mike Dowling not put her back on defense after her fourth goal, there's no telling how many times the McCann captain would have scored.

Nguyen capped off her amazing week by scoring two more goals in an 8-0 win over Commerce on Friday. A four-year starter, Nguyen now has 95 points in her Hornets' career.

"She's both fast and has a good touch," Dowling said. "She's always been really dangerous in space, but now she's gotten a lot better in close quarters as well. She's a lot stronger this year. She's always been great on breakaways, but now she's finding ways to move around when we have other team's pinned in."
