County Swim League Celebrates Season, Seniors at Individuals Meet
CRARYVILLE, N.Y. – Mount Anthony’s Emily Tibbetts and Ruby Kiefer each won a pair of events on Saturday at the Berkshire Individuals meet at Taconic Hills High School.
Tibbetts and Kiefer, who led the Patriots to a Berkshire North Division title in the dual meet season, also helped the team win a pair of relays in the regular season-ending all-league meet.
As an individual, Tibbetts won the 50-yard freestyle and 100 free. Kiefer won the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke.
Wahconah’s Anna Lamontagne won the 500 freestyle.
Monument Mountain’s girls won the 200 free relay and got individual wins from Sara Isby (200 free) and Keaghan Kline (100 butterfly).
Kline also was recognized before the meet as the league’s outstanding swimmer on the girls side. Pittsfield’s Joey Kearns took that title among the league’s boys before earning wins in the 100 free and 500 free on Saturday.
“Over the years, Joey has absolutely shown to be a highly committed swimmer, to the sport, as an athlete and also to his teammates,” PHS coach Jim Harrington said. “Joey has been swimming for many, many years and is always striving toward perfection.
“He has mastered a number of different events over the years and has qualified for Western Mass in all freestyle events and backstroke over the years.”
Monument Mountain assistant coach Asa Cade introduced Kline to the crowd.
“In all the races she’s swum, including every single event in the lineup every year, she has been challenged many times but never been beaten in Berkshire County,” Cade said. “Keaghan Kline has stood on the podium many times at both West/Central and State Championships as a sprint freestyler, butterfly and relay anchor.
“Her natural ability in all strokes makes watching her swim such a treat.”
Kline again was at the top of the podium Saturday as an individual, in the butterfly, and with teammates Isby, Adalyn Shufelt and Tess Holmes in the 200 free relay.
Berkshire North Champion Mount Anthony topped the podium five times at Saturday’s meet – four times with Braeden McManus, who swam on two winning relays and touched first in the 50 free and 100 fly.
Wahconah Saturday was recognized for its league wins in the Berkshire South girls and boys, sharing the latter with New Lebanon/Berlin.
Wahconah’s Kalen Spratt earned a win on Saturday, taking first in the 100 backstroke.
Monument Mountains’ boys took home a title as well; James Tonetti won the 100 breaststroke.
