Borawski, St. Peter Win State Championships
GLOUCESTER, Mass. – Mount Greylock’s Jacob Borawski and Monument Mountain’s Mason St. Peter each earned a state title at Saturday’s Division 3 State Championships at Gloucester High School.
Borawski earned a major decision over Monument Mountain’s Isaac Hartshorn in the 175-pound final.
He finished the match with a takedown with two seconds left in the third period to go ahead, 13-4.
Borawski reached the final with a 15-6 win over Pentucket’s Cooper Zaneski on Saturday.
Hartshorn advanced to the title bout with a 6-1 win over Southwick’s Jackson Bisson.
At 106 pounds, St. Peter started his Saturday with a third-period pin of East Longmeadow’s Jason Ireland-Schmuck in the semi-finals.
St. Peter then earned a 16-1 technical fall against Middleborough’s Nathan Gonsalves to take the title.
St. Peter and Hartshorn led the Spartans to the best finish among the three Berkshire County teams competing in the two-day state championship.
Monument Mountain finished in 11th place in a team competition won by Dedham. Mount Greylock placed 16th. Mount Everett was 38th.
The Eagles’ Max Manning was knocked out in the semi-finals on Saturday but ended up in fifth place.
Top five finishers in each weight class qualify for the All-State Tournament at Springfield’s Mass Mutual Center, March 1 and 2.
