Taconic Walks Off Extra-Innings Win

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Taconic baseball team Saturday scored an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth to take a 7-6 win over Monument Mountain.
 
Gavin Maffuccio started the winning rally when he reached on an error to lead off the inning. He moved to second when Evan Roccabruna worked a walk and took third when Quentin Christopher grounded into a fielder’s choice.
 
With two out and Maffuccio on third, Ethan O’Donnell hit a groundball that was mishandled in the infield, allowing him to reach safely and Maffuccio to score with the winning run.
 
Roccabruna went 3-for-4 with a double to lead Taconic’s offense.
 
O’Donnell was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI, and Gavin O’Donnell and Maffuccio each had a pair of hits.
 
Maffuccio and Ethan O’Donnell split the pitching duties, striking out nine and allowing just one earned run.
 
For the Spartans, Mason Bailey and Gus Luff combined to allow four earned runs and struck out eight.
 
Luff led Monument Mountain’s offense, going 4-for-5 with a double. Kyle McMahon and Bailey each had two hits and two RBIs.
 
Monument Mountain (0-4) hosts Hampshire Regional on Tuesday.
 
Taconic (2-3) hosts Minnechaug on Tuesday.
