Mele, Generals, Blank Frontier in Class B Semis

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Simon Mele struck out 13 Wednesday as the Pittsfield baseball team beat Frontier, 5-0, in the semi-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class B Tournament.
 
Mele scattered four hits and walked just one in the complete-game shutout win on the mound.
 
“Incredible performances by Mele on the mound today,” Pittsfield coach Drew Pearce said. “He pitched with controlled emotion, and [catcher Jackson] Almeida and he led us to a big win.
 
Jason Codey went 2-for-3 with a double to spark Pittsfield’s offense.
 
David Wildgoose and Ryan Stannard each also doubled in a seven-hit Pittsfield attack.
 
The Generals (17-3) travel to North Adams’ Joe Wolfe Field on Saturday evening to face Wahconah in the regional championship game.
