PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Hoosac Valley boys lacrosse team Friday ended its evening by honoring senior Adan Wicks for earning his 100th career point in last season’s final game.

The way the Hurricanes played in a 13-1 win over McCann Tech, there will be plenty of Wicks’ teammates making a push into the program’s scoring lists.

Jayden Tatro scored four goals and set up another, and seven Hurricanes had at least a point in the season-opening win under the lights on Berkshire Community College’s Gene Dellea Field.

“It was good to see a lot of different guys get involved in the offensive end,” Hoosac Valley coach Jacob Anderson-Hall said. “We’re a little raw, but that’s OK. It’s a cold night, it’s our first game. We’ve been in the gym the majority of the two weeks [of pre-season]. It’s good to finally play some lacrosse, no matter the weather. It’s always a good time to be out here.”

Cam Odar had a hat trick, and Wicks and Jackson Larabee each scored a pair of goals for Hoosac Valley, which got eight saves from Max Griffin.

“It’s not going to be our typical Hoosac lacrosse team that’s anchored by our defense,” Anderson-Hall said. “It’s going to be a high-powered offense.”

The Hurricanes set that tone right off the bat with five goals in the first quarter.

Tatro scored the first two and set up a goal by Jackson Larabee to make it 5-0.

It was 8-0 before the Hornets got on the board when Harley Collins converted an assist from Dallas Ritcher.

McCann Tech, which made a run to the Western Mass title game last spring, graduated 10 seniors from a team that had just one junior in 2025.

So Paul Lange, who returned to the head coach role of a program he started back in 2016, knew that this year was going to be a bit of a rebuild.

“We had a scrimmage a few days ago against Wahconah, and we did running time, and the score was worse [than Friday’s opener], so just taking that into consideration we’ve improved 1,000 percent,” said Lange, who served as an assistant coach on last year’s McCann Tech squad. “They’re coming along. It’s going to be a good season.

“Everybody’s getting better every day. Today, we had a bunch of new kids who have never really played in a real game before, other than that scrimmage the other day. So they got some good experience.”

Meanwhile the Hornets, who will look for win No. 2 on Wednesday at Northampton, are also building experience in the back.

“We’re young on defense, so until they get caught up to speed with everything, hopefully our offense can keep us in games and win,” Anderson-Hall said. “It was good for [Griffin] to see some actual shots tonight. Max is one of the better goalies that we’ve had come through this program.

“It’s good to see with a young defense that we can still have that defensive anchor.”
