Castillo, Bond Cap Busy Week with Weekly Honor
The holiday break from school was no vacation for this week's iBerkshires.com/Bedard Bros. Athletes of the Week.
No one was busier as 2025 wound down than the Pittsfield High girls basketball team, which went 3-0 on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, winning the first two games on the road.
The Generals then rang in 2026 with a fourth win of the week on Friday, knocking off county rival Drury.
Harolyn Castillo has been a force in the paint for Pittsfield, averaging more than 19 points and nine rebounds per game on the young season.
She scored 24 points in a one-point, overtime win over Hornell of Western New York on Sunday. One night later, she matched that total and pulled down 12 rebounds against Niskayuna, N.Y.
She had another double-double -- 14 points, 11 boards -- as Pittsfield improved to 2-0 in the Valley League with a home win over Longmeadow.
This week, Pittsfield stays in the division with a home game against unbeaten Minnechaug on Tuesday and Thursday's trip to Northampton.
Drury's boys went 3-0 during the New Year's holiday week, and one of those wins brought with it a major milestone for junior Jorge Bond, who scored his 1,000th point at Veritas Prep Charter.
He followed that up with 35 more points in a Berkshire County League win at Monument Mountain three nights later.
Bond, who averaged almost 21 points per game as a sophomore, is even more dominant this year, putting in 29 points per game for the Blue Devils.
Drury is 6-1 this winter and takes a five-game winning streak into its next league showdown, Monday night in Bucky Bullett Gymnasium against unbeaten Wahconah.
The iBerkshires.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Bedard Bros.
