Counterfeit 5 dollar bills

By Larry Kratka, WUPE Radio NewsPrint Story | Email Story
Police have in their possession what they believe is a counterfeit $5 dollar bill that was used to purchase merchandise at a Pittsfield convenience store yesterday. The phony $5 dollar bill looks like the real thing at first but it has several flaws. The phony $5 dollar bill has no hologram, no security strip and the feel of the paper is slightly off what it should feel like. The fake $5 dollar bill also has a serial number that begins with “K11”, which indicates that the original bill was issued from a Federal Reserve Bank on the west coast then altered by counterfeiters. If you suspect you have a phony $5 dollar bill in your possession, call your local police department. This report was compiled by WUHN/WUPE Radio, Pittsfield
