Stockbridge - Don’t Delay! There is still room in some of IS183 Art School’s summer camp programs for ages 5 to 14, beginning June 9.

An “Early Bird” camp for children ages 5 to 10 begins the season with “Art Extravaganza” with faculty artist John Clark from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Imagination and inspiration will be the focus of this week-long session. Start the summer off right and dive into this exciting week.

Kids ages 5 to 7, can choose from a series of week-long programs from 9:30am to 12:30pm throughout the summer. From “Join the Circus” with Karen Arp-Sandel to “Out of Africa” with Lisa Abbatomarco, each week offers a different theme and a variety of mediums.

Campers ages 8 to 10 can still register for week-long programs from 9:30am to 3:30pm. From “Felt, Fresco and Fibers” with Heather Graber to “Walk in the Woods” with Liz Daly, students will explore their creativity and work in a variety of mediums.

Summer starts for students ages 11 to 14 on June 30th. Camps are offered in two week sessions beginning with “Around the World” which explores art from a diverse group of cultures and includes photography, batik intaglio printmaking and more. July 14th to July 25th “Super Size” will focus on painting, collage and photography on a large scale. July 28th to August 8th “Something from nothing” is a camp designed for aspiring sculptors and 3D artists who will utilize recycled and unusual objects to create works of art. From August 11th to August 22nd students can spend two weeks in “Clay: Dig it! Shape It! Fire It!” and learn techniques of wheel working and hand building, as well as alternative glazing and firing methods like raku and majolica.

Early drop-off is available at 8:45 for all campers. Late pick-up is available for children 8 to 14. A 10% discount is available for siblings.


One day only - 10% discount is available for campers when they register at IS183’s Open House on Saturday, May 10th from 10-3.

IS183 Art School is a non-profit community art school encouraging people of all ages’ means and skill levels to enrich their lives through hands-on experience in the visual arts. Located half-way between Great Barrington and Pittsfield in the Interlaken village of Stockbridge, IS183 Art School offers year-round programs in ceramics, painting, drawing, fiber arts, sculpture, mixed media and more for children, teens and adults. 

IS183 also offers week-end workshops for adults; Young Artist programs during school vacations and in the summer; birthday parties; custom classes and private lessons. Classes are held during the daytime, evenings and weekends, for all levels from the absolute beginner to professional artist.

Pittsfield Council Passes $232.7M Budget

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council unanimously approved a $232.7 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year. 

It is a modest, almost 2.9 percent increase from FY26. 

"I do want to give the community kind of a heads up as we move forward on budgets. What we see coming out of the federal government that's trickling down to the states, it's going to be harder and harder for us as a community to meet our needs under the Proposition 2 1/2," Councilor at Large Alisa Costa said. 

"We're going to have challenges, as we've seen communities across the state trying to override the Proposition 2 1/2, because we have dwindling amounts of money coming from the state and federal government." 

She pointed out that, at the same time, utility bills are going up for both residents and the city, as are the costs of pavement and other items. 

The amended budget of $232,777,720, down from the $232,782,090 originally proposed, includes cuts to the Department of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the restoration of funds for councilors to attend the annual Massachusetts Municipal Association conference. 

The Pittsfield Public Schools' $86,855,061 budget includes $68,886,061 in state Chapter 70 funding and $18 million from the city. With $345,000 in school choice and Richmond tuition revenues, it totals $87,200,061 and is an approximately $300,000 increase from the Pittsfield Public Schools' FY26 budget of $86.9 million. 

The district's budget will fund 13 schools, as Morningside Community School will retire in the fall, and includes the middle school restructuring. 

Councilors also approved the use of $2 million in certified free cash to reduce the tax rate, and appropriated $450,551 for parking-related expenditures.
