String Quartet Performs At Spice In Pittsfield, November 21, 2008

Four Tanglewood Music Center Fellows from 2008 return to the Berkshires for an evening of chamber music at Spice Restaurant in Pittsfield on Friday, November 21. The evening will begin with a wine and cheese reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by a performance by The Brunnell Quartet, featuring violinists Ruby Chen and Jessica Tong, violist Jessica T. Chang and cellist Elizabeth Means. The quartet will by performing Stravinsky’s Three Pieces for String Quartet, Puccini’s Chrysanthimums, and Schubert’s String Quartet in G Minor, D. 173.   

“We are thrilled to bring a bit of the Tanglewood Music Center to the Berkshires in our off-season” said Tanglewood Music Center director Ellen Highstein. “Each summer the Tanglewood Music Center Fellows represent the finest young musicians performing today. These four remarkable TMC alumni are a wonderful example of that extraordinary level of musicianship, and we hope their concert will inspire listeners to come and explore the many offerings of the Tanglewood Music Center during the 2009 season.”

Spice Restaurant is located at 297 North Street in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Tickets, priced at $35 for adults and $20 for children, are available by calling 413-637-5273 or emailing tanglewoodrsvp@bso.org. Tickets may be purchased by credit card or check until November 18. Tickets will also be available for sale, cash only, at the restaurant on the evening of the performance.

The Tanglewood Music Center (TMC) is the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s academy for advanced musical study, founded by Serge Koussevitsky in 1940. Each summer, approximately 150 Fellows in residence present over sixty concerts in the areas of orchestral music, chamber music, opera, and arts song.

Lanesborough Passes FY 2027 Budget, Warrant Articles

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Town meeting on Tuesday approved an almost $14 million fiscal 2027 budget, and approved bylaws for short-term rentals and signage, and for public safety vehicles. 
 
Of the 20 warrant articles, one, Article 7, to use free cash to pay prior fiscal year bills of $941.27 was indefinitely postponed by Moderator David Rolle because the bills were for the fire association.
 
Some 247 of the town's more than 2,600 registered voters filled Lanesborough Elementary School, debating articles during a meeting that lasted more than three hours. 
 
The town's 2027 spending plan is up more than 10 percent, with the main increases from higher enrollment in the regional schools and the McCann Technical School renovation project.
 
Voters approved the assessment of $7,586,284 for Mount Greylock Regional School. They also approved Article 11, which was the use of $16,298.48 in free cash for the McCann's roof and window replacement project so as not to impact the budget. 
 
Ambulance Director Jen Weber is planning 24-hour coverage, which means more staff and a hike in her budget. Article 5 asked the town to appropriate $234,100 to operate the Ambulance Enterprise Fund for salaries and expenses, which passed.
 
Fire Chief Jeff DeChaine spoke to the audience on his articles and the need for a new truck to replace the 1996 fire truck, listed on the warrant articles for a total $813,366, which includes a $100,000 contingency cost on whether a 2026 model-year chassis can be secured before new emissions standards in 2027. If they get the 2026 chassis, that contingency likely won't be needed.
