A three-pointer at the buzzer, 65-62 loss for the Ephs

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – A three-pointer at the buzzer by Framingham State (4-4) guard Darius Yarrell proved to be the difference in a 65-62 loss for the Ephs (5-2) Tuesday night. The game was a rematch of the first round of last weekend’s Harbor Invitational, in which the Ephs beat the Rams by 11.

Whereas hot shooting made the difference for the Ephs the first time around, cold shooting proved their downfall on Tuesday. Williams was held to just 32.3% shooting for the game, and just 23% from beyond the arc. The Rams for their part poured in 46% of their shots, and were 7 of 17 from three-point range (41%).

Williams led with just under 13 minutes to go in the game, 43-41, but at that point the Rams opened up an 18-5 run over the next seven minutes of the game to take a 59-48 lead with 6:11 to go.

Leading the way for the Rams this time around was forward Roderick Jackson, who led all scorers with 20 points, 14 of which came in the second half.  Jackson scored eight points over the Ram run.

Jackson stepped up in place of Ram forward Jose Almodovar, who put up only 8 points on 3 of 10 shooting. Almodovar led the Rams during the two teams last match up with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

With 4:02 remaining in the game the Ephs received a break when Jackson fouled out of the game, the Rams leading 61-54. Williams jumped on this opportunity, and after a layup by senior co-captain Kevin Snyder (Littleton, CO) and a jumper from junior Blake Schultz (Atherton, CA), the Ephs were within two.

On the next Ram possession the Ephs forced a turnover. Senior co-captain Mike Kearney (Washington, DC) was then fouled, and after sinking one of two the Ephs were down just one with 30 seconds remaining.

With the shot clock no longer a factor, the Ephs were forced to foul resulting in Ram guard Bill Carey hitting one of two. On the next Eph possession with the score 62-60 in Framingham’s favor, the Rams fouled Snyder with 12 seconds left. Snyder, who finished the game with 15 points on a tough 4 for 14 shooting night, coolly hit both free throws to tie the game.

After a Williams timeout, the Rams inbounded the ball and pushed it up the court. Junior guard Chad Dixon penetrated into the lane and kicked it out to Yarrell for the game-winner. Yarrell finished the game with 13 points while Dixon added 11.

Williams two leading scorers on the game, in addition to Snyder, were Schultz with 11 and Ethan Timmins-Schiffman (Wilmington, DE) with 10, however all three shot below 50% for the game as the Ephs cooled off substantially from a weekend in which they shot over 50% for the tournament.

Williams will have a week off, and then plays host to SUNY New Paltz on Tuesday (December 9) in their last game before the Christmas break. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.

Lanesborough Passes FY 2027 Budget, Warrant Articles

By Breanna SteeleiBerkshires Staff
LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Town meeting on Tuesday approved an almost $14 million fiscal 2027 budget, and approved bylaws for short-term rentals and signage, and for public safety vehicles.

Of the 20 warrant articles, one, Article 7, to use free cash to pay prior fiscal year bills of $941.27 was indefinitely postponed by Moderator David Rolle because the bills were for the fire association.

Some 247 of the town's more than 2,600 registered voters filled Lanesborough Elementary School, debating articles during a meeting that lasted more than three hours.

The town's 2027 spending plan is up more than 10 percent, with the main increases from higher enrollment in the regional schools and the McCann Technical School renovation project.

Voters approved the assessment of $7,586,284 for Mount Greylock Regional School. They also approved Article 11, which was the use of $16,298.48 in free cash for the McCann's roof and window replacement project so as not to impact the budget.

Ambulance Director Jen Weber is planning 24-hour coverage, which means more staff and a hike in her budget. Article 5 asked the town to appropriate $234,100 to operate the Ambulance Enterprise Fund for salaries and expenses, which passed.

Fire Chief Jeff DeChaine spoke to the audience on his articles and the need for a new truck to replace the 1996 fire truck, listed on the warrant articles for a total $813,366, which includes a $100,000 contingency cost on whether a 2026 model-year chassis can be secured before new emissions standards in 2027. If they get the 2026 chassis, that contingency likely won't be needed.
