CHESHIRE, Mass. — Hoosac Valley Middle and High School brings the Cole Porter musical "Anything Goes" to the stage this weekend.
Stage director Nicole Boyer and Instrumental music director Jacob Keplinger wanted to bring something big to Hoosac Valley this year but also something classic.
"We like that old fantastic classic musicals with the big-band shows," Boyer said. "It is a very fun show and sailing on a cruise ship during the snowy weather is always good."
The musical "Anything Goes" was first performed in 1934. Music and lyrics were written by Porter and the book by Guy Bolton, P.G. Wodehouse, Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.
Much of the show takes place on the S.S. American, sailing from New York to England. Wall Street broker Billy Crocker, played by Jackson Keplinger, is a stowaway on the ship who hopes to win back his long-lost love Hope Harcourt, played by Angelica Tanguay, who is engaged to wealthy English Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, played by Jake Meczywor.
Billy is up against his own boss Elisha Whitney, played by Aaron McAdoo, and Hope's mother, Evangeline, played by Hanna Koczela, who both want the wedding to go as planned.
Keplinger said the show is big and there are 50 kids involved between the crew, band, actors and dancers.
The first show will be Friday at 7 p.m. in the Hoosac Valley auditorium. There will also be a show Saturday at the same time.
