ADAMS, Mass. -- Alethia “Mae Mae” Dozier threw three strong innings in the circle, and catcher Dakota Marko went 3-for-4 with four RBIs at the plate Monday to lead the ACS Swat 10-and-under softball team to a 20-15 win over Lee in the Berkshire County tournament semi-finals at Albert S. Reid Field.
Adams-Cheshire moves on to Tuesday’s county title game against Dalton, a 17-16 winner over Lenox on Tuesday.
Dozier allowed three runs and struck out four in 3-⅓ innings. She also ended the game in style, snagging a line drive with runners at first and third and one out and firing to third baseman Emily Raschdorf to get the third out.
Marko led an eight-hit Swat attack, getting a hit in each of her first three at-bats and scoring a pair of runs. Dozier helped her cause with a double and a pair of RBIs, and Rachel Wnuk went 2-for-2 and scored four runs.
Karalynn Hopkins doubled in a run and scored twice for Lee, which also got a single and three RBIs from Dannica Poirier.
Both teams piled up runs in the first two innings.
Lee started with a five-run first against ACS starter Nora Moser, who struck out the side around six walks. She got her third strikeout of the game to leave the bases loaded and keep the score 5-0 (teams could score a maximum of six runs per inning until the final inning).
ACS scored the maximum in the bottom of the first thanks in part to Marko’s RBI single.
But Lee struck for six in the top of the second, which saw Dozier come in from center field to take over the pitching duties.
The Swat went up 12-11 in the bottom of the second. Cheyenne Ritcher and Marko each had a two-run single in the rally.
In the third, Dozier held Lee to one run to give her team an opening, and the Swat tacked on three in their half of the inning to go ahead, 15-12.
Hopkins double helped Lee pull to within a run in the top of the fourth, but ACS rallied for five runs in the bottom of the frame to make it 20-14.
Molly Middlebrook started the fourth-inning rally for ACS with a single to left. Wnuk followed with a single to score Middlebrook, who had moved up on a wild pitch, and Dozier brought home Wnuk. Dozier stole third and came home on a fielder’s choice from Raschdorf, who eventually scored on a wild pitch. Moser reached on a walk and moved and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Lee’s Poirier closed the door with a pair of strikeouts to leave two runners in scoring position, but her team went to the fifth with a six-run deficit and darkness closing in.
In the top of the fifth, Isabella Elley walked, went to third on a Delaney Boomsma single and scored on an error that left runners at the corners before Dozier started the game-ending double play.
In a back-and-forth game, Dalton outlasted Lenox. Megan O’Bryan was the winning pitcher, and Eliana Norton did a great job behind the plate.
Katelyn McCormack hit a home run for Dalton, and both teams did a good job in the field.
Kacie Harte scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game for Dalton. O’Bryan had two hits in the game, and Elena Ioveno had a double and a triple.
Makenna Kubli had two hits to lead Lenox.

Cheshire Newcomer Offers Expertise to Aid in Grants
By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff
CHESHIRE, Mass. — New resident Bobby Quintos wants to leverage his contacts to help the town secure grants to address infrastructure challenges and support future energy and cost-saving initiatives.
"I'm not here to be a consultant or anything like that. I'm just here to help. I like the community. I'm involved with the church, and I think there's a lot of things we could do here in this little town of Cheshire, where we can take advantage of a lot of these grants," he said.
Quintos attended a Select Board meeting last month to highlight his experience in engineering, grant writing, and forging partnerships across government.
He is originally from New York and moved to Cheshire at the end of 2023 to be near his son and grandkids.
He heard about several challenges and initiatives the town has been undertaking, including infrastructure issues with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, roof repairs, and the potential for solar panels.
"I know how to raise money," he said, saying he'd helped the Berkshire Regional Transit Authority obtain $8.3 million in grant funding in his role as its general manager of Berkshire Transit Management. A year prior, he aided in the BRTA obtaining $1 million for hydrogen technology.
"I know that Cheshire has raised some grants. I've done quick research [on] you guys, and Massachusetts is fairly generous, too," Quintos said, listing a weatherization grant for the police station and the Community House, resurfacing funds for Fred Mason Road, and others.
