Adams Theater: 'Robert Frost: This Verse Business'

ADAMS, Mass. — The Adams Theater is bringing the "Robert Frost: This Verse Business," starring Gordon Clapp, to the Berkshires on June 1 and 2.

It's a one-man exploration of the poet: his life, his poetry, his decisions, his regrets, and his writing.

According to a press release, Emmy winner (NYPD Blue), IRNE winner (Man in the Ring), and Tony nominee Clapp has been lauded for the way he embodies Frost's "flinty old poet" vibes.

Clapp read Robert Frost's biographies shortly after graduating from Williams College in 1971.

"I'd always been obsessed with his poetry. And I decided I'm going to bring this guy to the stage," he told Vermont Public Radio in 2023. "But it took me another 30 years to get around to it."

Clapp has now played Frost more than 130 times; playwright A.M. Dolan, who has acted with regional and summer theatres across the country, earned a "Best New Play" award for "This Verse Business" at the Eventide Arts Festival in 2010, and  "Best Production" at the United Solo Play Festival in NYC in 2013. Clapp has returned to Frost even while taking on other roles in theater and TV.

Friday Afternoon Fire Destroys Cheshire Barn

By Tammy Daniels iBerkshires Staff

CHESHIRE, Mass. — A fire on Friday afternoon destroyed a barn at 920 Sand Mill Road.

The building is a total loss but firefighters were able to prevent the flames from reaching another nearby barn and the house at Stoney Brook Farm.

Fire Chief Thomas Francesconi said the fire was called in 12:39 p.m. by the homeowners "but it already had a foothold before they noticed it."

Responding firefighters found the L-shaped structure fully involved. Adams, Lanesborough, Savoy and Windsor fire companies responded and Williamstown Fire covered the station.

The tankers were used to transport water from a nearby brook until a pool could be set up near the scene and water pumped into it.

Northern Berkshire EMS responded and one firefighter was treated at the scene and then taken to Berkshire Medical Center.

Francesconi said there were no other injuries but the owners told him there were 18 chickens in the barn. The structure also had equipment and other materials in it, including a Jeep.
