Robert W. Perry, 73
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Robert William "Chip" Perry, 73, of 78 Winter St. died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 11, 2005, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown.
Born in North Adams on Sept. 14, 1932, son of Fred and Mary Shand Perry, he attended North Adams schools, graduating in 1950 from Drury High School.
An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served as a section leader operating 60-mm mortar guns. He was honorably discharged in 1955 with the rank of sergeant first class. He then served in the Massachusetts National Guard.
Mr. Perry worked for the North Adams Parks and Recreation Department, retiring on Dec. 31, 1995.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, serving on its Executive Board. He was a Mason, a Boy Scout leader, and a member of the American Legion and Stamford (Vt.) Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed fly fishing, hunting with muzzle-loading rifles, camping, hiking, history and World War II aviation.
He and his wife, the former Ann S. Stetson, would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on Nov. 1.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Wendy P. Petsinger and her husband, Thomas, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; two brothers, Fred C. Perry III of Clarksburg and Lauren A. Perry of Priest River, Idaho, three grandchildren and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
FUNERAL SERVICES — Funeral services for Mr. Perry will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, the Rev. Joseph DeCosta, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS Funeral Home are Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, or to New England Baptist Hospital, Boston, though the funeral home.
