Edward Francis Pringle

Edward Francis Pringle, 84, of 74 Center St., owner of Trottier-Pringle Funeral Home, died Saturday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in North Adams on Dec. 6, 1920, son of Robert J. Pringle Sr. and Agnes Durant Pringle, he was a 1939 graduate of Drury High School in North Adams and a 1950 graduate of the former New England Institute of Anatomy. He joined the Army in 1940 and served as a surgical technician with the 422nd Infantry Regiment in Africa and Europe. Mr. Pringle purchased the funeral home in 1960. A licensed funeral director, he first worked for the former Pringle Funeral Home in North Adams, then for McBride Funeral Service. In 1958, he went to work for Daniel Trottier at the former Trottier Funeral Home. He also worked part time for the former Bloniarz Funeral Home and at one time was part owner of the former Simmons Funeral Home on Park Street. A pilot, Mr. Pringle was one of the first in New England to operate an air hearse business. In 1970, he established Berkshire Hills Aviation, a fixed-base operation at Harriman & West Airport in North Adams. He sold the business in 1980. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas, where he was a collector and volunteered at the Notre Dame bingo for many years. He also served on the Notre Dame finance committee. He was a 53-year member of Adams Lodge of Elks 1335, a member of American Legion Post 160 and the former Cartier Club, and a past member of the Knights of Columbus in Pittsfield. He was a Yankees fan. He and his wife, the former Christina E. Mullen, celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary Oct. 25. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Mark R. Pringle of Cheshire, and a grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Edward Francis Pringle will be Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at 9 from TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Notre Dame Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic Community of Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 7. Flowers are welcome, or donations in his memory may be made to the Notre Dame and St. Thomas renovation fund or the Adams Lodge of Elks' new building fund, through the funeral home, 6 Summer St., Adams, MA 01220. He also leaves a grandson, Ryan P. Pringle of Adams; a niece, Judy Rivera of North Adams, and a nephew, Peter D'Amico of California. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marjorie Beaudin and Hazel M. D'Amico Beaudin. His brother, Robert J. Pringle Jr., was killed during World War II.
